China Three Gorges University (CTGU), established in 1923 and listed by WHO in 1958, is one of the few top ranking universities in China. The university is awarded ‘Project 211’ by the Ministry of Education of PR China. Project 211 is one of the central government programs which is awarded only to the excellent universities in China. The university has introduced a 5.5-year (including internship) MBBS course since 2003. The first batch students have successfully completed their course in 2008. Since 2007, with the directive of higher authority the university is following a 6-year (including 1 year internship) which is continuing till date.

In 2008 a special program was observed in the occasion of successful completion of 5th year of enrolling foreign medical students in MBBS program in CTGU. In the same year a high level delegation from Nepal Medical Council, National Academy of Medical Science and Tribhuvan University visited CTGU. During the visit CTGU and Tribhuvan University signed an agreement to extend bilateral cooperation of exchange program, research program, sharing of recent advances and so on. Distinguished guests and personalities, who had paid an official visit, have expressed their satisfaction over the medical education in China Three Gorges University.

In 2009 another delegation from Nepal Medical Council, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health paid goodwill visit to CTGU to observe the teaching affairs of the university. The team observed the college and interacted with foreign medical students. The team appreciated the teaching activities of the university.

In 2009 Ambassadors from SAARC countries, including Nepal, visited CTGU to observe and interact with authorities, teachers and students. The delegates highly appreciated the facilities, security and academic programs going on in CTGU.

China Three Gorges University (CTGU) was established in 1923 and was recognized by WHO in 1958. It was awarded the prestigious grant given under ‘Project 211’ approved by the Ministry of Education. Project 211 is awarded to the excellent universities in China. CTGU is a comprehensive university, which comprises the former University of Hydraulic and Electric Engineering and Sanxia University (Medical School of the Three Gorges College), and is one of the key universities in Hubei Province. Besides, CTGU is one of the fist universities which was conferred the power to recruit foreign students. At present there are more than 400 foreign students from more than 8 countries including Nepal, India, Maldives, USA, Japan, South Korea, Netherlands, etc.

China Three Gorges University is located in Yichang City, Hubei Province, where there are the world famous Three Gorges Dam, Gezhouba Dam and Qingjiang Geheyan Water Power plant, the largest dam in Hubei province. The university covers an area over 300 hectares surrounded by beautiful scenery with numerous groves of trees, beautiful lakes and grasslands. This peaceful and conducive environment makes China Three Gorges University a perfect academic place for students and teachers.
